Lazy Days of Summer

Yes, it's a dry heat - but 100+ is HOT, no matter how you slice it. Good thing Phoenix locals know how to beat the heat.

There's still time before school starts to take advantage of these 6 tips for staying cool as a cucumber until the temps return to the idyllic 70s to mid-80s that make the Valley such a destination climate.

1. Head north to Arizona's natural water slide, Slide Rock, located at Oak Creek Canyon in gorgeous Sedona.

Tubing the Salt River - fun in the sun!

2. Grab your inner tube and head for a day of fun in the sun on the Salt River!

3. ROAD TRIP!!! Head out of town to San Diego or Rocky Point.

4. Make a daytrip visit to one of our local water parks.

Beat the Phoenix heat at Oasis Water Park

5. With more than 35 public pools in the Phoenix area, there are lots of aquatic centers to choose from.

6. Relax with a mojito in your own back yard.

Tools 4 Success Back to School Drive

Do you remember those days, summer coming to a close and knowing the firstHelp us help foster kids go back to school day of school was right around the corner? No matter whether you were a great student who loved school, or a slacker who didn't quite see the point of all the book learnin', almost every kid I knew looked forward to the FIRST day of school. And it was getting the new school supplies that really got my tail wagging. The excitement of new notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, pencil boxes, lunch boxes.

What a great time the start of school was - and still is - for many kids. Unfortunately, though, there are a lot of kids here in Metro Phoenix who won't have the proper supplies and tools for the coming school year ... unless you are willing to help.

Once again, Anna Banana Realty has partnered with Off Campus Jams to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to more than 200 Arizona children in foster care. Off Campus Jams is an amazing organization whose mission is to equip at-risk and troubled teens by providing them the tools, resources, and positive adult role models they need to succeed and excel in every area of life.

We've got a GIANT collection box set up in the lobby of Anna Banana Realty (2301 W. Dunlap Road, Suite 105, Phoenix 85021). Stop by and say hello, as you drop off anything from this list:

  • Backpacks
  • Pencils & pens
  • Colored pencils
  • Rulers
  • 3-ring binders
  • Crayons & markers
  • Glue & glue sticks
  • Filler paper
    August 2009
  • Folders

Last year, Off Campus Jams, with the help of 39 volunteers and 12 business partners like Anna Banana Realty, collected materials to provide backpacks to 149 foster youth and children. Additionally, the surplus materials we collected were stored and distributed to new kids who transferred into group homes during the year.

Our goal this year is to serve 200 foster kids and at-risk youth.

Please join me in contributing to this very worthy cause. If you're not in Arizona, please consider finding a back-to-school drive you can contribute to in your community - AND pass this message along to anyone you might know who is located here in the Valley of the Sun.

You will be blessed many times over for your donation!
