8 Tips to Begin Prepping Your Home for Sale
Creating a plan will allow you to be deliberate about enhancing your
property. Designate a special notebook for your “Selling My Home”
projects. Then walk around your house and through your yard, making a
list of the things that need to be done. Consider how your property
appears to people driving by or walking through the front door. What
will they notice and like or dislike? What needs fixing, painting, or
cleaning? What can you improve?
1. Declutter, Declutter, Declutter
2. Clean Everything
Buyers understandably expect to see a spotless house, both inside and
out. So your goal is to make everything squeaky clean, especially your
windows and window sills. Scrub the walls and floors, tile and
ceilings, cupboards and drawers, kitchen and bathrooms. Clean the
light fixtures and ceiling fans.
3. Make Your Closets Look Spacious
Closet space is an important consideration for many buyers. Every
potential buyer wants to feel like they’ll have
plenty
of closet space … always. Packing away out-of-season clothing will go
a long way toward making your closets look spacious.
4. Paint
A new coat of paint is one of the quickest ways to clean up your
living space and make it look bright and new. This is an area where
you’ll want to rely on your Realtor®, as she or he will
know what colors are currently popular in the homes on the market that
are selling.
5. Tend to the Carpet
Check the condition of your carpet. If it’s worn, consider replacing
it. This can be another easy, affordable way to help sell your home
faster. At the very least, have your carpet professionally cleaned.
6. Repair and Renovate
When it comes to repairs and renovations, remember to think like a
buyer! The fact is that you are probably living with some things that
could really use to be repaired or replaced. So ask yourself, “If I
knew I were going to live here for five or 10 more years, what would I
repair or replace?” Think about it like this – would
you
buy your house in its current condition?
7. Check Your Curb Appeal
The “Wow!” factor can turn a looker into a buyer. This is that first
visual, high-impact impression your home makes on potential buyers. To
determine your property’s curb appeal, drive
One of the easiest ways to get and hold the attention of your
prospective buyers is by enhancing your yard and landscaping. If your
house looks inviting and well-maintained from the street, people’s
imaginations will encourage them to believe that it’s attractive on
the inside, too.
8. Focus on the Front Door
An attractive entryway catches a buyer’s eye and says, “Welcome,” so
highlight your doorway with decorative touches such as an elegant
wreath, new shrubs, or flowers around the steps. For an even grander
entry, clean and paint your front door, or replace it with a new one
for a few hundred dollars. Remember to polish doorknobs, repair torn
screens, and put out a new welcome mat. |
